Atheism: A brief essay

People seem to get confused as to the meaning of Atheism. Atheism simply means the lack of belief in a diety or dieties. Simply put, they do not think any divine being exists. A person who subscribes to atheism is called an Atheist.

Atheism comes from the Greek word "Athos" which means without belief. People tend to think since atheists don't believe in their god the person must believe in some other god. WRONG! An atheist thinks all gods are not real and does not believe in any of them. An atheist is not necessarily against any religion, he simply thinks they are all made up and has no need for them. Those atheists against religions are called anti-theists.

Other than that there is nothing else atheists have that is close to an ideology. Humanism is an ideology derived from the lack of belief in the divine which strives for the betterment of mankind and the good of society. But an atheist is not necessarily a follower of Humanism. He is free to choose.

Thus in atheism a person is free to choose to do what he pleases. But atheism implies that since we aren't guided by any god, his actions are on himself. Whether wrong or right an atheist has no excuse to hide behind unlike a believer of god(s) who can hide behind the excuse that his actions were divinely inspired and thus his actions are not his responsibility.

Eminent atheists : Dr. Stephen Hawking, Dr. Neil De Grasse, Dr. Richard Dawkins, Sarah Silverman, Brad Pitt, Bill Maher, Kiera Knightly, Hemant Mehta, Gora. The list goes on but these are the people I tend to follow closely.

To clarify, I am an atheist. I am a firm believer in democracy, Human Rights, secularism and liberty. I also believe in Gender Equality and I hope I am a feminist but that is something others get to call me not something I get to call myself. I am pro-LGBTQ Rights and am Pro-Choice. Thus I am a Liberal and a Progressive. My political stance is Center Right or maybe I am a Socialist. I am still not sure on that.
